A heads-up.
It’s easy to navigate the course by swiping (on a touchscreen) or using the arrows at the bottom right. The course takes about 3 hours to complete, and you will receive a certificate when you have completed it. You can also choose to do the course in sections by registering. Good luck!
Have you ever saved up for something?
Congratulations, you have the potential to be a futures thinker!! Saving money means avoiding certain expenses in the present to buy something in the future. By doing that, you thought about the long(er) term.
Dealing with uncertainty.
Futures thinking is a way of dealing with uncertainty. By considering different options, you can make more informed choices, which gives you more influence over your future (and that’s important for our shared future). During this course, you’ll find out more about how that works.
Often, we only consider the future when things are already going wrong.
A garden party might be too simple an example. But you might be surprised at how many people overlook the weather. Even for something this simple, there are quite a few options. And if you don’t act until there is a storm approaching, your options are pretty limited.
Whether it's saving money, hosting a garden party, or meeting climate goals.
By the end of this course, you’ll be able to form a picture of how the world can change, how to recognise those changes, and how to determine what to do next.
The future is relevant in nearly everything we do.
Sometimes it’s because we want to create a specific future, sometimes we hope to prevent a particular future.
Different perspectives.
Rudy already said that we’ll explore the future from different perspectives. In the process, you’ll be guided by various experts. In the following modules, they’ll introduce themselves.
That was the introduction!
You're well on your way. In the next module, we'll discuss how you can think like a futures thinker.
